China ready to promote stable development of bilateral ties with Ukraine: FM

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: China is willing to work with Ukraine to jointly promote the sustained and stable development of bilateral relations, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang said on Thursday.

Qin made the remarks during a phone conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

Since diplomatic relations between China and Ukraine were established 31 years ago, bilateral relations have maintained a momentum of development, Qin said, adding that the Ukrainian side expressed its commitment to establishing sincere relations with China on the basis of mutual respect, for which China shows appreciation.

Kuleba, for his part, said China is not only Ukraine’s important cooperation partner but also an indispensable key power in international affairs.

Looking at the relationship between the two countries from a long-term perspective, the Ukrainian side will continue to adhere to the one-China principle, respect China’s territorial integrity and look forward to increasing mutual trust and deepening cooperation in various fields with China, Kuleba said.

Kuleba introduced the latest situation of the Ukraine crisis and the prospect of peace talks to Qin, expressing gratitude to China for providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

He said the position paper released by China on the Ukraine crisis and political settlement reflects the sincerity of promoting the ceasefire of the crisis, adding that Ukraine hopes to maintain communication with China.

Qin reiterated China’s stance of always taking an objective and just position and committed to promoting peace talks on the Ukraine crisis, as well as calling on the international community to create conditions for negotiation.

China is concerned about the escalation and the possible loss of control of the crisis, Qin said, expressing his hope that all parties can remain calm, rational and restrained and resume peace talks as soon as possible to advance the political settlement of the crisis.

China will continue to play a constructive role in mitigating the crisis and resuming peace talks, he said.
