Beijing, The Gulf Observer: China’s top political advisor Wang Huning has called for solid efforts to enhance democratic oversight in the eco-environmental conservation of the Yangtze River as the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) nears completion this year.

Wang, who is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, emphasized the need for high-quality completion of all conservation-related tasks.

Speaking at a seminar attended by leaders of non-CPC political parties and independent political figures, Wang urged these groups to leverage their consultative oversight role and provide pragmatic opinions and suggestions.

“Efforts must be concentrated on the most critical, urgent, and prominent environmental issues to ensure more targeted and effective democratic oversight,” he stated.

Wang also stressed the importance of reviewing and assessing the effectiveness of current eco-environmental protection efforts along the Yangtze River and preparing for a new round of special oversight initiatives.

The seminar was presided over by Li Ganjie, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Leaders of eight non-CPC political parties and a representative of independent political figures also shared their perspectives on enhancing ecological oversight at the meeting.
