China Strongly Condemns U.S. Arms Sales to Taiwan, Urges Immediate Halt

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, strongly criticized the United States’ recent arms sales to Taiwan on Sunday, calling for an immediate halt to such actions.

Responding to media queries about the U.S. announcement of a new round of military assistance and arms sales to Taiwan, Zhu stated, “We firmly oppose the U.S. providing weapons to China’s Taiwan region in any form, and our stance is consistent and clear.”

She emphasized that the U.S. move violates the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, particularly the August 17 Communique of 1982. Zhu also highlighted the detrimental message this sends to “Taiwan independence” separatist forces.

Zhu reiterated that separatist activities and external interference pose the most significant threats to peace across the Taiwan Strait. She urged the United States to cease arming Taiwan and warned Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority against pursuing independence by relying on the U.S. and military means, stating that such efforts lead to a dead end.
