China to Host Eighth Greater Mekong Subregion Summit in Kunming
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: The eighth Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit is set to take place from November 6 to 7 in Kunming, Yunnan Province, announced Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Monday. Chinese Premier Li Qiang will chair the summit, which will bring together leaders from the five Mekong countries—Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam—alongside the President of the Asian Development Bank.
This year’s summit aims to strengthen regional cooperation in the Greater Mekong Subregion, addressing shared goals in sustainable development, economic growth, and cross-border collaboration. Leaders are expected to discuss issues of mutual interest, including trade, investment, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability, reflecting the strategic importance of the Mekong River Basin in Asia’s development landscape.
The GMS Summit, established in 1992, provides a platform for dialogue and partnership among countries along the Mekong River, with support from the Asian Development Bank, to foster economic connectivity and cooperation across the region.
