China to push comprehensive strategic cooperation with Cambodia

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: China stands ready to work with Cambodia to continue supporting each other’s national sovereignty, security and development interests, aiming to push the China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic cooperation to yield more fruits, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang said on Friday.

Qin made the remarks in Beijing, during talks with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, who is accompanying Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Hun Sen on his visit to China.

President Xi Jinping just had friendly and in-depth exchanges with Prime Minister Hun Sen, Qin said, adding that the two leaders reached a high degree of consensus, and jointly opened a new era of building a China-Cambodia community with a shared future that is high-quality, high-level and high-standard.

Peaceful development is one of the distinct characteristics of the Chinese modernization, Qin pointed out.

Insisting on the path of peacefully developing, Qin said China will adhere to the mutual benefit and win-win strategy of opening up to the outside world and neighboring diplomacy of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness.

China is willing to deepen the friendly cooperation with countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) including Cambodia, jointly safeguard international fairness and justice, and advocate development, progress, unity and integration instead of conflict and decoupling, he added.

For his part, Sokhonn expressed his gratitude to China on providing strong support and assistance for Cambodia to follow a development path suited to its own national conditions.

He said Cambodia is willing to work with China to build a China-Cambodia community with a shared future well, aimed at elevating the iron-clad friendship between the two countries.

Taking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia and China-Cambodia Friendship Year as opportunities, Sokhonn said Cambodia expects to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields.

The Cambodian side highly praises China’s important role and contribution in international affairs, he said, pledging more support and participation in the building of the Belt and Road Initiative, Global Development Initiative and Global Security Initiative, so as to contribute more to promoting the development of the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership.
