Chinese and Ukrainian Foreign Ministers Discuss Ukraine Crisis in Guangzhou

Guangzhou, The Gulf Observer: On Wednesday, the foreign ministers of China and Ukraine met in Guangzhou to exchange views on the ongoing Ukraine crisis. The discussions highlighted both countries’ perspectives and potential pathways to peace.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, reiterated China’s commitment to promoting a political solution to the crisis. He noted that as the Ukraine crisis enters its third year, there are increasing risks of escalation and spillover.
“China believes that all conflicts should be resolved by returning to the negotiation table and through political means,” Wang stated. He emphasized that both Russia and Ukraine have recently shown varying degrees of willingness to negotiate. Although conditions and timing are not yet ideal, China supports all efforts conducive to peace and is ready to continue playing a constructive role in securing a ceasefire, ending hostilities, and restarting peace talks.
Wang also expressed China’s concern about the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and pledged continued humanitarian assistance.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who is on a four-day visit to China, acknowledged the importance of China’s views and confirmed that Ukraine has carefully studied the six-point consensus proposed by China and Brazil on the political settlement of the crisis. Kuleba affirmed Ukraine’s readiness to engage in dialogue and negotiations with Russia, emphasizing that the negotiations should be sensible, substantive, and aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace.
Wang called for a sound and steady development of China-Ukraine ties, highlighting the strategic partnership established more than a decade ago. He noted that China and Ukraine have treated each other with mutual respect and equality, steadily advancing mutually beneficial cooperation.
The meeting underscores the ongoing efforts by both China and Ukraine to seek peaceful resolutions and strengthen bilateral relations amidst the ongoing conflict.
