Chinese mainland welcomes Ma Ying-jeou’s visit: spokesperson
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Ma Ying-jeou, former leader of China’s Taiwan region, is welcome to visit the Chinese mainland with a group of young students to worship ancestors and exchange ideas, a mainland spokesperson said on Monday.
Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said worshiping ancestors on Qingming Festival is a common custom of people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Ma Ying-jeou is scheduled to lead a delegation to the mainland on March 27.
Strengthening exchanges between young people on both sides of the strait can inject vitality into the peaceful development of cross-strait ties, the spokesperson said, expressing willingness to provide necessary assistance and wishing him a successful visit.
