Chinese Premier Li Qiang Affirms Support for ASEAN Community

Vientiane, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Premier Li Qiang expressed strong support for the establishment of the ASEAN Community and emphasized ASEAN’s pivotal role in regional cooperation and international affairs. His remarks came on Wednesday upon his arrival at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, where he is set to engage in significant diplomatic discussions.

In a written statement, Li highlighted China’s readiness to engage in in-depth discussions on major regional cooperative issues, aiming to contribute to efforts that position the region as a vital engine for global development.

Li’s visit to Laos is at the invitation of Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, the current chair of ASEAN. He will participate in various leaders’ meetings focused on East Asia cooperation during his stay, which runs from October 9 to 12.

The Premier acknowledged Laos’s proactive leadership as ASEAN’s rotating chair, noting its emphasis on practical cooperation and consensus-building among member states. He commended the country’s efforts in fostering new progress and achievements in ASEAN Community development and East Asia cooperation.

Reflecting on the deepening relations between China and Laos, Li remarked that the bilateral partnership has entered a new era characterized by comprehensive strategic cooperation, guided by the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith. He expressed China’s commitment to working collaboratively with Laos to synchronize development strategies, enhance solidarity, and achieve substantial progress in building a community with a shared future.

Li emphasized China’s ongoing comprehensive reforms as it works towards becoming a great modern socialist country, while Laos embarks on a new journey of reforms and openings to advance its socialist goals.

During his visit, Premier Li will attend the 27th China-ASEAN Summit, the 27th ASEAN Plus Three Summit, and the 19th East Asia Summit, which will provide platforms for furthering dialogue and cooperation among participating nations.
