Chinese Premier Li Qiang to Attend 2024 World AI Conference in Shanghai
Shanghai, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Premier Li Qiang is set to attend the opening ceremony of the 2024 World AI Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance on July 4 in Shanghai, where he will deliver a keynote speech. This announcement was made on Tuesday by foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.
During a press briefing, Mao Ning highlighted the rapid advancement of AI technology in recent years, noting that while it offers substantial socioeconomic benefits, it also presents significant risks and challenges. Consequently, global AI governance has emerged as a critical task for all nations.
China supports the principles of wide participation and consensus-based decision-making in global AI governance. The country promotes the establishment of broad international consensus, respecting the diverse policies and practices of different countries, Mao said.
The World AI Conference, now in its seventh annual edition, will center on the theme “Governing AI for Good and for All.” The conference aims to foster international cooperation and create platforms for open, inclusive, and equal participation. It seeks to advance global AI governance and develop an open, fair, and effective governance mechanism.
The event will bring together government officials, representatives from international organizations, industry leaders, academia, and research institutes. “We look forward to a full exchange of insights in Shanghai, driven by extensive consultation and joint contribution for shared benefit,” Mao Ning stated. “Our goal is to build consensus and promote the healthy, safe, and orderly development of AI.”
The conference underscores China’s commitment to fostering a collaborative and effective approach to AI governance, ensuring that technological advancements benefit all of humanity.
