Chinese President calls for a China-Vietnam community with a shared future

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday said that China and Vietnam should commit themselves to building the two countries into a community with a shared future.

President Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with Truong Thi Mai, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Faced with the “stormy” international situation and given both countries’ tasks in reform, development and stability, China and Vietnam should uphold the guideline of “long-term stability, future orientation, good-neighborly friendship and comprehensive cooperation” and the spirit of “good neighbors, good friends, good comrades and good partners,” Xi emphasized.

Both sides should consolidate political mutual trust, strengthen unity and cooperation, properly manage differences, and jointly address risks and challenges, he said.

Efforts should be made to advance the building of a China-Vietnam community with a shared future that is committed to the cause of peace and progress for humanity.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Vietnam.

During a visit to China last October by Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the CPV Central Committee, the two sides issued a joint statement on enhancing the relations.

Xi on Wednesday also urged both countries to improve synergy between their development strategies and projects, advance infrastructure connectivity and people-to-people exchanges.

Efforts should be made to strengthen the two countries’ solidarity and cooperation in international affairs, and reject hegemony or camp confrontation so as to safeguard the dividends of regional peace and development, he added.

For her part, Truong Thi Mai, who is also permanent member of the CPV Central Committee Secretariat and head of the Organization Commission of the CPV Central Committee, said Vietnam has always prioritized the development of friendship and cooperation with China in its foreign policy.

Vietnam always adhered to the one-China policy, and firmly supported China’s reunification efforts, she said.

The senior CPV official added that her country will support the major global initiatives China has proposed, and backs China’s hosting of the third Belt and Road Forum on International Cooperation this year.

Vietnam hopes to strengthen regional and international cooperation with China so as to promote regional and global peace and development, she said.
