Elena Rybakina Climbs to World No. 3 in WTA Rankings Following U.S. Open
Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstani tennis star Elena Rybakina has climbed one spot in the latest WTA Singles Rankings, reaching world No. 3 following the conclusion of the U.S. Open. This update was reported by NHC, citing Sports.kz.
Rybakina’s ascent in the rankings comes after American Coco Gauff, who was previously ranked third, suffered a fourth-round defeat at the U.S. Open. Gauff was ousted in a tightly contested match, losing 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, and consequently dropped to the 4th position.
The top two positions in the WTA Singles Rankings remain unchanged, with Poland’s Iga Swiatek continuing to hold the top spot, followed by Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in second place.
It is noteworthy that Rybakina had to withdraw from the 2024 U.S. Open due to an injury, despite her strong start in the tournament. She had advanced to the second round after defeating Australian Destanee Aiava, ranked 194th, in straight sets.
This year’s U.S. Open boasted a total prize pool of 75 million U.S. dollars, marking a 15% increase from the previous year. The winner of the tournament will take home 3.6 million U.S. dollars, while the runner-up will earn 1.8 million U.S. dollars.
Rybakina’s rise in the rankings underscores her consistent performance on the WTA Tour, solidifying her position as one of the top players in women’s tennis.
