Erdogan Calls for UN Arms Embargo on Israel, Warns of Escalating Conflict
Istanbul, The Gulf Observer: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for a United Nations arms embargo on Israel, asserting that such a measure would be effective in halting its actions. Erdogan vowed that Türkiye would continue to push for the embargo on all international platforms, as tensions in the region escalate.
Speaking on Friday, President Erdogan warned that the absence of a ceasefire risks pushing the region toward a broader conflict, accusing Israel of seeking provocations to spread the violence. His comments come amid growing international concern over the ongoing hostilities.
Erdogan’s remarks were made during the 3rd meeting of the South Caucasus Regional Cooperation Platform, held at the Dolmabahce Presidential Office in Istanbul, where he and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan hosted foreign ministers from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Iran, and Russia.
During the meeting, Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s strong commitment to the South Caucasus Regional Cooperation Platform, which aims to resolve regional issues through dialogue. He highlighted the importance of diplomatic efforts to achieve permanent peace in the region and welcomed the progress toward reconciliation between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“The transformation of the South Caucasus towards lasting peace is encouraging,” Erdogan stated. He also stressed the need to institutionalize the platform to enhance its role as an effective dialogue mechanism for addressing regional challenges.
The discussions at the meeting touched upon the ongoing peace process in the South Caucasus as well as broader regional and global issues, with all participants reaffirming their support for continued dialogue and cooperation.
