Erdogan, Carney Discuss Bilateral Relations and Global Issues in New York

New York, The Gulf Observer: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Monday at the Turkiye Center in New York, where he is attending the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, the two leaders held talks on bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues. President Erdogan emphasized that Türkiye and Canada, as key NATO allies, play an important role in ensuring the security of the Euro-Atlantic region. He highlighted the significant potential for cooperation, particularly in the energy sector and the defense industry, noting that ongoing contacts between the two countries would further strengthen bilateral ties.

On regional developments, President Erdogan reiterated Türkiye’s efforts to secure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the continuous delivery of humanitarian aid. He stressed that the two-state solution remains the only viable path to resolving the Palestinian issue.

Erdogan also welcomed Canada’s recent decision to formally recognize the State of Palestine, extending his congratulations to Prime Minister Carney on what he described as an important step toward peace and justice.
