Erdogan, Macron Discuss Ukraine War and Global Issues in Phone Call

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and French President Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation on Wednesday to discuss the Russia–Ukraine war, bilateral relations, and a range of regional and global developments.

According to a statement shared by the Turkish Presidency on the social media platform NSosyal, the call was initiated at the request of President Macron. The two leaders reviewed the current state of Türkiye–France relations and exchanged views on key regional issues.

President Erdoğan underlined the importance of advancing cooperation between Türkiye and France, stating that both countries would continue to take steps to strengthen bilateral ties.

Addressing the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict, Erdoğan said Türkiye is making maximum efforts to help achieve a just and lasting peace. He noted that Ankara’s diplomatic contacts with both parties to revive the Istanbul process are ongoing, reiterating Türkiye’s readiness to contribute to any initiative that could open the door to peace as soon as possible.

The president stressed that diplomatic channels must be used effectively to secure a sustainable end to the conflict. He added that Türkiye will continue to support efforts toward achieving a ceasefire and facilitating the subsequent political process. He further emphasized that avoiding actions that could destabilize the global environment would positively contribute to peace efforts.

The two leaders also discussed recent developments in the South Caucasus, the situation in Gaza, and the ongoing conflict in Syria.
