Erdogan Strongly Condemns Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump

Butler, The Gulf Observer: In a strongly worded statement, Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the assassination attempt on former US President and current presidential candidate Donald Trump. The incident occurred during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“I strongly condemn the assassination attempt against the 45th President of the United States and presidential candidate, Mr. Donald Trump,” Erdogan wrote on X on Sunday after the former president was hit in the ear by a gunman at the rally.

Erdogan expressed his heartfelt condolences to Trump, his family, and his supporters. He emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation, saying, “I believe that the investigation into this attack will be conducted in the most effective manner to ensure that the perpetrators and instigators are brought to justice as soon as possible, so as not to cast a shadow over the US elections and global stability.”

The Turkish president reiterated Türkiye’s solidarity with the United States, stating, “Türkiye will stand by the friendly and allied people of the US.”

The 78-year-old former president was rushed off stage on Saturday, with blood streaked across his face after the shooting. The incident resulted in the deaths of the shooter and a bystander, while two spectators were critically injured. Trump, displaying a defiant fist to the crowd as he was escorted to safety, later remarked, “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.”

President Joe Biden, who is set to face Trump in the upcoming deeply polarized election in November, described the incident as “sick,” adding that “there is no place in America for this kind of violence.” The White House confirmed that Biden later spoke to Trump regarding the incident.

The assassination attempt has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, highlighting the intense atmosphere surrounding the US presidential election.
