Erdogan to Highlight Gaza Genocide at Upcoming UN General Assembly Address

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to once again draw global attention to Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza when he addresses the United Nations General Assembly on September 23.
According to information compiled by Anadolu, Erdogan has consistently brought the plight of Palestinians to the international stage in his UN speeches since his tenure as prime minister, positioning himself as a strong voice for Palestine. Over the years, he has repeatedly urged the international community to act collectively against Israel’s oppression and has emphasized that the only viable solution lies in the immediate establishment of an independent Palestinian state, based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Erdogan’s past addresses have stressed that resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is central to regional stability. He has criticized Israel’s disregard for UN resolutions, its illegal settlement activities, and the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza, describing the establishment of lasting peace as a humanitarian and conscientious responsibility.
On multiple occasions, Erdogan has underscored Türkiye’s unconditional support for Palestine’s recognition as a UN member state and its right to statehood. He has also called out the failure of the UN system, particularly the inaction of the UN Security Council, insisting that “the world is bigger than five.”
In recent years, Erdogan has strengthened his rhetoric, urging coercive measures against Israel, condemning the policies of annexation and occupation, and supporting international legal efforts, including South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. Türkiye, he noted, has sought to become a party to the case and has taken diplomatic and economic measures, such as halting trade with Israel and sending significant humanitarian aid to Gaza.
At this year’s General Assembly, Erdogan is expected to reiterate these themes, once again centering his speech on the Israeli genocide in Gaza and urging the international community to take concrete steps to ensure justice and protect Palestinian civilians.
