Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation on Wednesday with Donald Trump to discuss the recently announced ceasefire with Iran and broader regional developments, according to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.

During the call, the two leaders reviewed the latest situation in the region, focusing on the ceasefire declared earlier this week. President Erdogan welcomed the truce, describing the two-week pause following an intense 40-day period as a critical opportunity to move toward a permanent peace agreement.

He stressed the importance of utilizing this window effectively and cautioned against any actions that could jeopardize the fragile process.

President Erdogan also reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to supporting diplomatic initiatives undertaken with friendly and brotherly countries, particularly Pakistan, aimed at achieving a sustainable resolution to the conflict.

Meanwhile, President Trump announced the two-week ceasefire, noting that Tehran had presented a “workable” 10-point proposal for negotiations. According to Supreme National Security Council, the proposal—delivered to the United States through Pakistani mediation—includes commitments related to non-aggression, continued Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, acceptance of uranium enrichment, and the lifting of primary and secondary sanctions.

The proposal further outlines provisions for compensation to Iran, the withdrawal of US combat forces from the region, and an end to hostilities across multiple fronts, including conflicts involving Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The discussion underscores ongoing international efforts to de-escalate tensions and pursue a comprehensive and lasting peace in the region.
