Fifth Phase of Groundbreaking Signals Momentum for Indonesia’s New Capital City Development

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) unveiled the commencement of the fifth phase of groundbreaking activities in the burgeoning new capital city (IKN) Nusantara, marking a significant milestone in the journey towards its development. With projects valued at Rp49.6 trillion (US$3.17 billion) set to unfold, the groundbreaking ceremonies underscore the steadfast commitment to propel Indonesia’s future capital city into fruition.
Alimuddin, OIKN’s Deputy for Socio-cultural Affairs and People’s Empowerment, affirmed the pivotal role of the recent groundbreaking ceremonies held on February 29 and March 1 in North Penajam Paser District, East Kalimantan. “The groundbreaking ceremonies mark the launch of construction works, which in turn, proves that the IKN will continue to grow and develop,” remarked Alimuddin, emphasizing the enduring momentum behind Nusantara’s transformation.
Highlighting the substantial influx of investment, Alimuddin revealed that from September 2023 to February 2024, a staggering Rp50 trillion (US$3.19 billion) had been infused into the development of IKN Nusantara. This financial commitment underscores the confidence of investors in the prospects and potential of Indonesia’s new capital city.
Looking ahead, Alimuddin disclosed plans for the next phase of groundbreaking scheduled for March 2024, signaling an ongoing surge in development activities. Addressing concerns over land clearing, he assured residents that the government remains steadfast in safeguarding their interests and ensuring fair compensation in accordance with Government Regulation No. 39 of 2023.
Regarding land clearing processes, Alimuddin outlined various options available to affected individuals, including compensation funds, land replacement, resettlement, share ownership, or other suitable measures. “When a parcel of land needs to be cleared for the sake of the development of Nusantara City, its owners will get relocated,” affirmed Alimuddin, reiterating the government’s commitment to equitable development practices.
