G20 Summit: Jokowi highlights stability, solidarity, equality as keys to world's development

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), during session two of the G20 Summit in India on Saturday, highlighted that the three keys that determine the direction of the world’s development are stability, solidarity, and equality. Jokowi, according to a written statement on Sunday, stated that the “One Family” philosophy, which is the theme of the session, must be a mindset to determine the direction of the world’s development.

He encouraged G20 leaders to ensure all of the world’s communities live in peaceful, stable, and prosperous conditions.

The president explained that, as ASEAN chair in 2023, Indonesia continued to encourage ASEAN to be an anchor for regional stability. Indonesia will support a culture of dialogue and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

He called for ending wars and hostilities by adhering to international law and the spirit of inclusive cooperation and multilateralism.

As the premier forum for economic cooperation, the G20 is directed to make solidarity the spirit of cooperation between members.

President Jokowi stressed that the G20 must end the north-south, developed-developing, and east-west dichotomies and that the door to dialogue and cooperation must be open to all countries.

At the session, he also welcomed the African Union’s admission into the G20. Indonesia continues to encourage a wider regional representation in global governance.

Jokowi assessed that the G20 must support the strengthening of developing countries’ participation in global supply chains. A cooperation ecosystem that is equal, inclusive, and fair needs to be realized to fulfill the rights to development for all.

He further said that the G20 must advance the spirit of brotherhood and realize a peaceful, fair, and prosperous world.

At Saturday’s meeting, President Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and several other ministers.
