Baku, The Gulf Observer: Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP), participated today, alongside a delegation from the Council, in the International Parliamentary Conference held in Baku to mark the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The event brought together over 20 delegations representing national parliaments and international organizations.

In his address, Al Jarwan described the occasion as a historic milestone in Azerbaijan’s modern journey, praising the Constitution for enshrining the values of justice, independence, tolerance, and human dignity. He emphasized that these principles provide a strong foundation for the country’s continued development and national unity.

He extended his congratulations and appreciation to President Ilham Aliyev, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Dr. Sahiba Gafarova, and the people of Azerbaijan on this significant national occasion. Al Jarwan also lauded Azerbaijan’s efforts in promoting intercultural dialogue, safeguarding human dignity, and advancing regional and global peace.

Highlighting the alignment of these values with the mission of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, he noted that the organization, through its International Parliament and General Assembly, collaborates with over 100 countries and parliaments, as well as around 60 academic institutions and partner organizations, to foster a culture of tolerance and peace.

Al Jarwan further emphasized the strong partnership between the GCTP and the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, established under a memorandum of understanding in 2024, which has facilitated enhanced parliamentary cooperation, knowledge exchange, and joint initiatives focused on tolerance, youth and women empowerment, and interfaith dialogue.

On the sidelines of the visit, Al Jarwan and his delegation visited the Baku Memorial (Tomb of the Unknown Soldier), laying a wreath to honor Azerbaijan’s martyrs. They also visited Martyrs’ Lane, paying tribute to the sacrifices of the Azerbaijani people in defense of their freedom and independence.

The participation of the GCTP delegation underscores the continued international recognition of Azerbaijan’s constitutional achievements and its commitment to promoting peace, tolerance, and interparliamentary collaboration on the global stage.
