Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Visits Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: His Eminence Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, Professor Ahmed Al-Tayeb, visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque on Sunday, where he was warmly received by Dr. Yousif Al-Obaidli, Director-General of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center.
During his visit, His Eminence proceeded to the tomb of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. There, he recited the Fatiha and prayed for mercy and forgiveness for Sheikh Zayed, reflecting on his enduring legacy and wise leadership that promoted a culture of tolerance, coexistence, and peace among diverse peoples worldwide.
The Grand Imam praised Sheikh Zayed as a unique example of wise leadership, whose vision transformed the UAE into a model of development, progress, and the preservation of religion and values. Sheikh Zayed’s rich legacy in supporting charitable and humanitarian work significantly contributed to establishing a culture of tolerance and coexistence through his honorable deeds and positions.
In his remarks, His Eminence emphasized the civilizational message of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which advocates for coexistence, tolerance, and openness to others, inspired by the virtues and values of the UAE’s founding father. He also lauded the significant role played by the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center in promoting tolerant Islamic culture and advancing civilizational communication among different cultures and peoples globally.
Accompanying His Eminence the Grand Imam during the visit were Dr. Omar Habtoor Al Darei, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, Dr. Khalifa Al Dhaheri, Chancellor of Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities, and Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders.
The visit underscored the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque’s role as a beacon of tolerance and a bridge for cultural and religious dialogue, fostering a spirit of global unity and understanding.
