Guatemala and Panama Reaffirm Support for Morocco’s Territorial Integrity at UN Decolonization Session

Rabat, The Gulf Observer: At a recent session of the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization (C24) in New York, Guatemala and Panama reaffirmed their unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, backing the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as the most credible basis for resolving the dispute over Western Sahara.
Representing Guatemala, the country’s diplomat described Morocco’s 2007 Autonomy Plan as “a realistic and credible foundation” for a negotiated political solution. “This proposal remains a serious path toward a negotiated outcome between the parties,” she emphasized, urging the preservation of Morocco’s unity and sovereign rights.
Highlighting Guatemala’s commitment to peaceful resolution and regional stability, the representative expressed confidence in Morocco’s constructive role and welcomed the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in reviving the long-stalled political process.
Going beyond diplomatic support, the Guatemalan representative praised Morocco’s tangible development efforts in the southern provinces, citing advancements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare as evidence of Morocco’s investment in the region’s future. She also recalled Guatemala’s opening of a consulate general in Dakhla in December 2022, a move that she called “a step beyond symbolic recognition” toward deepening bilateral ties.
Panama also used the occasion to voice its firm support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and endorsed the Autonomy Plan as “the most credible and realistic path” toward a lasting solution to the regional conflict.
The repeated expressions of support from both countries highlight the growing international momentum behind Morocco’s vision for resolving the Western Sahara issue within the framework of its sovereignty.
