Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Daewoo Engineering Chairman Discuss Expansion of Turkmen-Korean Cooperation

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, met on Tuesday with Jung Won-ju, Chairman of the Korean company Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., to discuss the strengthening of Turkmen-Korean cooperation across key economic sectors.

During the meeting, Jung Won-ju expressed his gratitude to Hero-Arkadag for the opportunity to meet and commended his significant contribution to the continued development of mutually beneficial relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea.

Both sides noted that bilateral cooperation has reached a qualitatively new stage, with Korean companies actively operating in Turkmenistan since its early years of independence, particularly in the oil, gas, and chemical industries. Jung Won-ju also reaffirmed Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co.’s readiness to contribute to the innovative development of Turkmenistan’s chemical industry, which he said offers substantial potential for growth.

Warmly welcoming the guest, Hero-Arkadag expressed his appreciation and extended best wishes to former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, former Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Kim Jin-pyo, and former head of the Korea–Turkmenistan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Lee Dal-gon, recognizing their contributions to advancing constructive dialogue between the two nations.

Berdimuhamedov emphasized that relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea are based on long-term strategic partnership, mutual respect, and trust. He highlighted Turkmenistan’s ongoing economic development and industrial modernization programs, which prioritize environmental sustainability and the adoption of green technologies.

In this regard, the National Leader mentioned that Turkmen experts are currently studying the production of “green” methanol from guzapai (cotton stalks), noting that Turkmenistan’s cotton is environmentally friendly and suitable for industrial applications.

Berdimuhamedov also pointed to the favorable business environment in Turkmenistan as a foundation for expanding cooperation into new areas. The meeting underscored the successful collaboration between the State Concern Türkmenhimiýa (Turkmenchemistry) and Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., which continues to play an important role in advancing industrial projects in the country.

The National Leader further stressed that Turkmenistan pays particular attention to environmental standards, the application of advanced technologies, and the timely and high-quality implementation of infrastructure and industrial projects.

Expressing his appreciation to Hero-Arkadag and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for the favorable working conditions created in Turkmenistan, Jung Won-ju assured that Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co. would continue to responsibly fulfill its contractual commitments and contribute to Turkmenistan’s sustainable development.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov extended his best wishes to Jung Won-ju for continued success in his professional endeavors.
