Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Reviews Preparations at Ashgabat Olympic Stadium Ahead of AFC Champions League Match

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, on Sunday visited the capital’s Olympic Village to review preparations at the Olympic Stadium ahead of the AFC Champions League Round of 16 match between Arkadag and Al-Nassr Club of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan’s official media reported.
During the visit, Berdimuhamedov inspected the 45,000-seat Ashgabat Olympic Stadium—the largest in Central Asia—which will host the high-profile encounter. He assessed the condition of the pitch, spectator stands, and other facilities, stressing that addressing all current tasks must remain a top priority.
Emphasizing the responsibility associated with hosting an international sporting event, Berdimuhamedov said no detail should be overlooked, as the organization of the match directly reflects the country’s sporting prestige. He underscored the importance of ensuring comfortable conditions for spectators, athletes, and coaches, while also calling for the active use of modern technologies and internationally recognized best practices. Relevant instructions were given to officials.
Chairman of the State Committee for Construction of Arkadag under the President of Turkmenistan, Deryageldi Orazov, reported that the football field is fully prepared in line with international standards. He added that all necessary conditions have been created to ensure a high-level tournament and optimal preparation for the athletes.
Berdimuhamedov noted that a victory by the Arkadag team— which has achieved notable international success in recent years—would be a significant achievement for the country. He added that even in the event of a draw or defeat, the match would remain a celebration for the people, fostering hospitality toward foreign guests and inspiring future sporting accomplishments. Expressing confidence in the team, the National Leader said the players would give their best and deliver a fair and exciting match.
The AFC Champions League Round of 16 fixture between Arkadag and Al-Nassr is scheduled for February 11, 2026, at the Ashgabat Olympic Stadium, with kickoff set for 6:45 p.m. local time.
