Hockey Oman’s Modern Arena: Hosting prestigious Hockey5s in lead-Up to Paris Games
Muscat, The Gulf Observer: A recently inaugurated integrated hockey complex is set to become the host venue for the FIH Hockey5s World Cup in anticipation of the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris this July. Under the stewardship of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, the Hockey Oman facility will showcase matches from January 15 to 21, featuring eight international teams vying for three coveted qualifying tickets.
Subsequently, the complex will host the Futsal Hockey World Cup ‘Oman 2024’ from January 24 to 31. This state-of-the-art facility comprises two stadiums designed to meet international standards, training fields, and essential amenities such as offices, changing rooms, broadcast platforms, and VIP boxes. With a spectator capacity exceeding 5,000 seats, the stands are adaptable for use in other stadiums beyond the tournament period.
H E Basil bin Ahmed al Rawas, the Undersecretary for Sports and Youth, expressed optimism that the project’s completion within a remarkable five months will bolster Oman’s standing in hockey, facilitating regional and international competitions.
Oman’s commitment to hockey is underscored by its status as a prominent force in the sport within Asia, and the newly established infrastructure is poised to play a pivotal role in the game’s development, as highlighted by H E Rawas.
