Inaugural Ceremony of COP29 Academy Held to Foster Youth Participation in Climate Action

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The opening ceremony of the COP29 Academy, established to ensure the active participation of youth in environmental awareness and the fight against climate change, has been successfully held, according to media reports. The Academy aims to provide young individuals with active experience in the field and to train them professionally for organizing large-scale, globally significant events in the country.

During the ceremony, the names of the 29 young individuals selected for the COP29 Academy from among 360 candidates through rigorous tests and competitions were announced. The event was graced by the presence of COP29 Azerbaijan President-Designate Mukhtar Babayev and Chair of COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company and Chief Operating Officer for COP29, Narmin Jarchalova.

In his address, Mukhtar Babayev congratulated the young individuals admitted to the Academy and wished them success in their future endeavors in combating climate change. He emphasized the importance of youth participation in global events, highlighting the potential of modern technology and innovations in the fight against climate change.

Narmin Jarchalova provided detailed information about the selection process and the educational program of the COP29 Academy. She stated that the education process at the Academy will continue until early September. The Academy’s curriculum, consisting of various modules, will offer participants mentorship and opportunities for continuous professional development. This will enable them to acquire soft skills such as project management, professional conduct code, and knowledge in the field of sustainability.

It was also noted that outstanding participants of the COP29 Academy will be employed in various functions within the Operating Company, contributing to the organization of the COP29 event as members of the working staff.

The COP29 Academy stands as a significant initiative to empower the youth and ensure their active role in global efforts to address climate change.
