Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian Chef de Mission (CdM) for the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, Bayu Priawan Djokosoetono, has set a target of five gold medals for Indonesia’s swimming team at the upcoming SEA Games in Thailand.

Speaking at the Gelora Bung Karno Aquatic Stadium in Jakarta on Thursday, Bayu Priawan Djokosoetono said, “We hope to secure numerous medals in aquatics at the SEA Games this December.”

To achieve this goal, the CdM confirmed that Indonesia will cooperate closely with the Indonesian Aquatics Association (Akuatik Indonesia) and the Indonesian National Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) to ensure athletes have access to top-quality swimming facilities and infrastructure for training and preparation.

“Based on discussions with coaches and athletes, the team is highly prepared and motivated to compete at the SEA Games,” he added. He also affirmed that all requirements regarding athletes’ transportation and accommodation have been fully addressed.

Wisnu Wardhana, Deputy Chair for Performance Development and Sport Science at Akuatik Indonesia, highlighted that the association and coaching team are conducting detailed assessments of competitors’ capabilities to enhance Indonesia’s medal prospects at the 2025 SEA Games.

At the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, Indonesia secured a total of 276 medals, including 87 gold, 80 silver, and 109 bronze, ranking third overall in the medal tally. In swimming, Indonesia won three gold medals through I Gede Siman Sudartawa in the men’s 50-meter backstroke, Masniari Wolf in the women’s 50-meter backstroke, and Felix Viktor Iberle in the men’s 50-meter breaststroke.

Wardhana expressed confidence that Indonesia’s swimming team can achieve the target of five gold medals this year, noting that the 2025 squad is among the strongest in recent history.

For the 2025 SEA Games, Indonesia will field a team of 22 swimmers, ranging from the youngest athlete, 14-year-old Adelia Cantika Aulia, to the oldest, 31-year-old I Gede Siman Sudartawa.
