Indonesia and Russia Agree to Intensify Bilateral Relations
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral relations, Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, and Deputy Chairman of the National Security Council of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, have agreed to bolster cooperation between Indonesia and Russia. The agreement was reached during a meeting at Medvedev’s official residence on the outskirts of Moscow on Tuesday, June 11.
“Russia is one of Indonesia’s largest economic partners. We want to continue the cooperation between us and hope to develop it in the future to achieve greater mutual understanding,” Hartarto stated in an official release from the Coordinating Ministry in Jakarta on Thursday.
Medvedev, who previously served as President of Russia from 2008 to 2012 and Prime Minister from 2012 to 2020, warmly welcomed Hartarto and emphasized Indonesia’s significant role and position for Russia. “Indonesia is Russia’s main partner and the largest in the Asia-Pacific region,” Medvedev remarked.
During the meeting, both leaders expressed their optimism about the future of Indonesia-Russia relations. Hartarto highlighted various global and strategic issues, including geopolitical matters and the positive dynamics between the two countries. “Indonesia welcomes this meeting as part of the efforts to improve relations between Indonesia and Russia in the future,” he affirmed.
Medvedev also voiced his eagerness to explore further cooperation and discuss global issues that ensure world security. “We are happy to develop this component within our contacts. Let us discuss cooperation to address global issues—issues that ensure security on this planet,” Medvedev stated. He underscored the importance of the meeting as an opportunity to establish multifaceted relations between the two nations.
