Indonesia Invites China to Collaborate on AI Development Investment

Geneva, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi has extended an invitation to China for collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI) investment during a bilateral meeting with Chinese Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology Shan Zhongde. The meeting took place on Monday, May 27, as part of Setiadi’s working visit to Switzerland.

In a statement issued by his ministry on Tuesday, Minister Setiadi expressed optimism about the potential for enhanced cooperation. “Hopefully, this meeting can bring better cooperation for mutual success,” he remarked.

During the discussions, Minister Setiadi highlighted Indonesia’s capabilities in AI development and emphasized the country’s investment in human resources as digital talents. These talents are anticipated to drive progress and foster the emergence of new AI innovations. He also addressed the ways in which AI can be leveraged to maximize Indonesia’s digital economy, positioning the nation on a path toward becoming a developed country.

From a regulatory standpoint, Setiadi noted that Indonesia is beginning to formulate clear guidelines for AI development. This includes the creation of a code of ethics for the use of AI within the industry.

Minister Setiadi is confident that Indonesia’s potential and strategic scenario will attract China’s interest in supporting the nation’s digitalization efforts, particularly in remote areas.

In response to the invitation, Vice Minister Shan Zhongde affirmed China’s interest in supporting Indonesia’s digital transformation. This support encompasses advancements in 5G and 6G technology connectivity and utilization within the telecommunications sector. Shan expressed hope that Indonesia would participate in an international forum on the digital industry and AI, scheduled to be held in China in early September 2024.

Minister Setiadi’s visit to Geneva is part of a broader initiative that includes a planned visit to Shanghai, where he aims to explore further cooperation in the digital field with China.
