Indonesia Promotes West Sumatra’s Gastronomic and Muslim-Friendly Tourism Through Famtrip Initiative

Indonesia

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Tourism is actively promoting West Sumatra’s rich gastronomic heritage and Muslim-friendly tourism to participants of a series of familiarization trips (famtrips).

“Through nature and cultural tourism activities in West Sumatra, participants can gain a deeper understanding of the culinary richness and the culture behind each regional specialty,” said the Ministry’s Deputy for Marketing, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, in a written statement on Monday.

The famtrip series, held from September 30 to October 4, 2025, covered several key destinations, including Padang Pariaman District, Padang Panjang District, Bukittinggi City, Payakumbuh City, Lake Singkarak, Alahan Panjang Highland in Solok District, and Padang City. The initiative aims to position West Sumatra as both a gastronomic and Muslim-friendly tourism destination, offering an appealing alternative for domestic travelers during the year-end holidays.

According to Marthini, the program is designed not only to highlight West Sumatra’s culinary and cultural diversity but also to encourage greater public interest in traveling #DiIndonesiaAja, particularly during the upcoming Christmas and New Year season.

The famtrip brought together tourism industry players, media representatives, and content creators, who are expected to amplify the promotion of West Sumatra’s tourism attractions to a broader audience.

Marthini emphasized that the activity also seeks to strengthen synergy and collaboration among stakeholders in advancing Indonesia’s tourism sector, with a particular focus on supporting sustainable and inclusive development in West Sumatra.
