Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Government of Indonesia has expressed its full support for the new direction of cooperation among BRICS member states as articulated in the Rio Declaration, adopted during the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, who accompanied President Prabowo Subianto during the BRICS plenary session on Sunday, July 6, stated that the declaration reflects a shared commitment to addressing a wide spectrum of global challenges and strengthening collective action.

“The leaders’ declaration outlines several key priorities, including the need to reinforce multilateralism and initiate meaningful reforms in global governance institutions,” Minister Hartarto said in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.

He emphasized that BRICS leaders have called for comprehensive efforts to maintain peace, uphold international stability, and deepen cooperation in economic, trade, and financial sectors — a vision that aligns closely with Indonesia’s strategic interests.

“Indonesia sees BRICS as a strategic platform to navigate global uncertainty, expand market access for its products, and enhance its economic resilience,” he added.

The minister also welcomed the declaration’s strong emphasis on climate action, sustainable development, and equitable growth. He stressed that the BRICS nations collectively reiterated their commitment to addressing climate change and promoting a clean energy transition, taking into account the unique capacities and domestic circumstances of developing countries.

Another key point highlighted in the Rio Declaration is the importance of advancing human, social, and cultural development. Minister Hartarto noted that Indonesia views such partnerships as critical to accelerating social transformation and inclusive progress within the Global South.

The 2025 BRICS Summit, themed “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” marked the fourth time Brazil has hosted the event and the second under the leadership of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The summit brought together high-level leaders from BRICS members and partner countries, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed, and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
