Indonesian Defense minister meets US counterpart in Singapore
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia’s Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto held a bilateral meeting with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III on the sidelines of the 20th International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Friday.
During the meeting, the duo discussed several issues in the region as well as defense cooperation.
“I think it is a good meeting, and until now, we have a very good relationship with the United States,” Minister Subianto noted in a statement received here on Saturday.
“We hope to continue this good cooperation,” he remarked.
In the meantime, apart from discussing defense cooperation, US Secretary of Defense Austin stated that his meeting with Minister Subianto also discussed ASEAN’s important role for the security and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific.
“I discussed with Minister @prabowo about the strength of the bilateral defense relationship,” Austin wrote on his Twitter social media account @SecDef.
Austin also said the two discussed their common views on regional security issues and ASEAN’s importance to the security and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region.
