Indonesia’s OECD Membership Foreseen to Catalyze Investment Surge

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, has underscored the potential for Indonesia’s accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to ignite a significant influx of investment from member countries.
Speaking at the OECD National Team Workshop held in Jakarta, Minister Hartarto revealed insights gleaned from internal surveys indicating that Indonesia’s OECD membership could spur a 0.37 percent increase in investment from member nations, subsequently bolstering the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 0.94 percent.
Highlighting the ripple effect, Minister Hartarto emphasized that this upsurge in investment would not only benefit large enterprises but also extend support to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), thereby catalyzing job creation and economic growth.
Minister Hartarto articulated, “By forging pathways in trade, investment, and collaborative ventures, Indonesia’s OECD accession journey promises reciprocal advantages for both the OECD and the wider Indo-Pacific region.”
Positing the pivotal role of OECD membership in propelling Indonesia beyond the middle-income threshold, Minister Hartarto underscored the imperative of concerted efforts, inclusive of diverse stakeholder aspirations.
Moreover, Minister Hartarto accentuated how Indonesia’s OECD membership aligns with its overarching vision for economic transformation, crucial for realizing the ambitious 2045 Golden Indonesia vision.
In sync with the OECD’s core tenets of good governance, transparency, and inclusive growth, Minister Hartarto stressed the harmonization between OECD principles and Indonesia’s trajectory towards progress and prosperity.
Envisioning Indonesia’s ascension as a global economic powerhouse, Minister Hartarto projected the nation’s ascension to the ranks of the world’s top five economies by 2045, underscoring the pivotal role of political stability in this endeavor.
Acknowledging Indonesia’s growing global prominence, Minister Hartarto underscored the nation’s emergence as a key player on the international stage, a status further fortified by its forthcoming OECD membership.
Concluding the event, OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann extended a warm welcome to Indonesia’s accession process, hailing Indonesia as an esteemed global actor poised to wield significant influence within the OECD Council, underscoring the nation’s invaluable contribution to shaping global policy frameworks.
