International Biology Olympiad 2024 Begins in Astana
Astana, The Gulf Observer: The International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2024 officially commenced in the Kazakh capital of Astana, as reported by media, citing the Enlightenment Ministry of Kazakhstan.
The opening ceremony was attended by Kazakh Enlightenment Minister Gani Beissembayev, Head of the IBO Steering Committee Dr. Lenka Libusová, and representatives from various departments.
In his address, Minister Beissembayev emphasized the significant role of the event in the educational sphere. “The first-ever IBO took place 34 years ago, gathering representatives from six countries. Today, Kazakhstan is proud to host teams from 81 countries,” he noted.
Minister Beissembayev also expressed his belief in the event’s impact on the participants’ future careers and its contribution to global scientific advancements. “I believe this Olympiad will be an important stage in your career choice, accomplishing significant gains to benefit world science. Your visit to Kazakhstan will leave unforgettable impressions of our traditions, hospitality, and friendship,” he stated.
The International Biology Olympiad 2024 in Astana is set to welcome 305 students and 275 supervisors from 81 countries. Over the 28 years of its participation, Team Kazakhstan has won more than 70 medals in the Olympiad, including two gold, 20 silver, and 54 bronze.
In addition to the competition, participants will be offered tours of the capital’s attractions and the Akmola region, and will have the opportunity to learn about Kazakhstan’s history and national arts.
This marks the first time Kazakhstan is hosting the International Biology Olympiad, showcasing its commitment to fostering international educational and scientific collaboration.
