International Conference Commemorating Confucius’ 2575th Anniversary Opens in Beijing

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: The International Conference to commemorate the 2575th anniversary of Confucius’ birth, which also marks the 7th Congress of the International Confucian Association (ICA), officially opened in Beijing on Saturday. The event brought together scholars and leaders from around the world to reflect on the enduring influence of Confucianism in modern society.

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, delivered the keynote address at the opening ceremony. Wang emphasized the importance of promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of China’s fine traditional culture while fostering international exchanges and mutual learning among different countries, ethnic groups, and cultures.

“This will not only further enrich the Chinese civilization but also contribute to a more vibrant and diverse global civilization,” Wang remarked, calling for the advancement of Confucianism and other outstanding traditional cultures. He stressed the need for these efforts to contribute to the development of a global human community with a shared future.

The ceremony was presided over by ICA President Sun Chunlan, and featured addresses from prominent international figures, including former Japanese Prime Minister and ICA Council Chair Yasuo Fukuda, former Italian Prime Minister Massimo D’Alema, and former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin. Through their speeches, either delivered in person or via other means, they underscored the relevance of Confucian values in resolving modern crises and conflicts, highlighting its universal appeal and impact.

The conference aims to deepen understanding of Confucianism’s role in shaping global thought and culture, while celebrating its historical significance and contemporary relevance.
