International Conference on “Media and Communication Studies in the Digital Age” Kicks Off in Baku

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The opening ceremony of the international conference titled “Media and Communication Studies in the Digital Age” was held today in Baku, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Azerbaijani National Press. The three-day event is co-organized by Baku State University (BSU) and Türkiye’s Üsküdar University, in partnership with the Media Development Agency, the Audiovisual Council, and the Press Council of Azerbaijan.

The conference brings together leading academics, researchers, media professionals, and students to engage in a comprehensive dialogue on the profound changes reshaping the media landscape in the digital era. The forum aims to explore the human, social, political, and cultural dimensions of the ongoing transformation in media production and consumption driven by digitalization.

The opening day of the conference features 48 academic reports across seven thematic sessions, addressing key issues such as “Media and Society in the Digital Age,” “Artificial Intelligence, Media and Society,” “Media and Communication Research in the Digital Age,” “Advertising and Marketing in the Digital Age,” “History of Journalism,” “Artificial Intelligence, Media and Visual Culture,” and “Digital Transformation and Media.”

In total, the conference has received approximately 300 scholarly articles and 100 theses, reflecting the robust interest and scholarly engagement with evolving media paradigms. The event will host 19 live panel discussions and around 24 online panels, offering a hybrid platform for global participation.

As part of the commemorative program, the Faculty of Journalism at BSU will inaugurate the “National Press History Auditorium.” Additionally, a special anniversary edition of the “Baku University” newspaper and the launch of the faculty’s newly established “Media Problems” magazine will also be presented during the conference.

The conference not only celebrates a significant milestone in the history of Azerbaijani journalism but also provides a vital space for international academic exchange on the future of media and communication in a rapidly digitalizing world.
