Iran Air Cancels All Flights to Europe Amid New EU Sanctions

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s flagship airline, Iran Air, has suspended all flights to Europe following sanctions imposed by the European Union, according to an official announcement from the Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) on Tuesday.
CAO spokesman Jafar Yazarlu confirmed the decision, stating that the cancelations resulted from the EU’s sanctions on several Iranian airlines, including Iran Air, Saha Airlines, and Mahan Air. These sanctions have prevented Iran Air from securing landing permits at European airports, disrupting normal flight operations.
“To avoid causing further disruptions to passengers, Iran Air has halted flights to European destinations, as obtaining landing permits under the current circumstances is no longer feasible,” Yazarlu explained. He also emphasized that the CAO is actively working to provide alternative solutions for passengers affected by the flight suspensions.
The sanctions, which were approved by the EU on Monday, target seven Iranian individuals and seven entities, including the aforementioned airlines. The EU claims the sanctions were imposed due to Iran’s alleged involvement in supplying ballistic missiles to Russia for use in the Ukraine conflict—an accusation that Tehran has firmly denied.
Iran has categorically rejected the EU’s claims, calling them baseless and politically motivated. The Iranian government has reiterated its position that it has not been involved in the transfer of any weapons or military equipment to Russia.
The CAO has vowed to continue its efforts to mitigate the impact of the sanctions and ensure that Iranian citizens and travelers can still access European destinations through alternative travel arrangements.
