Iran and Turkmenistan Enhance Gas Cooperation with New Agreements

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Turkmenistan, Ali Mojtaba Ruzbekhani, has highlighted the significance of recently signed agreements that aim to boost gas cooperation and enhance the well-being of both nations, as reported by CentralAsia.news.

Ambassador Ruzbekhani stated that these new agreements, reached in early July in Ashgabat, are a crucial step forward in the energy partnership between Iran and Turkmenistan. The agreements include a contract for the purchase and sale of up to 10 billion cubic meters of Turkmen natural gas per year, which will be supplied to the Republic of Iraq through Iran under the “SWAP” scheme.

The Ambassador emphasized Iran’s full support for the energy policies of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. These policies aim to secure new positions in the energy market and implement transnational projects.

As a result of the July meetings, plans were also made to increase gas exports to Iran. A 125-kilometer gas pipeline will be constructed within Turkmenistan, along with three gas compressor stations. These projects are expected to boost Turkmen gas supplies to up to 40 billion cubic meters per year through the Dovletabat-Serakhs-Hangeran route and the Chaloyuk gas metering station.

These initiatives mark a significant advancement in the energy cooperation between Iran and Turkmenistan, promising to strengthen the economic ties and energy security of both countries.
