Iran Condemns Israeli Strikes on Biological and Public Health Infrastructure at BWC Meeting

London, The Gulf Observer: Iran has condemned recent Israeli attacks on its biological and public health infrastructure, describing them as a “clear violation of international law” and a serious threat to global biosecurity.
Speaking at the Working Group on Strengthening the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), Heidar Ali Balouji, head of disarmament and arms control at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, accused Israel of conducting “deliberate” strikes on vaccine production centres, pharmaceutical facilities, and public health institutions in Iran.
“These attacks not only undermine our national public health capacity but also jeopardise regional and global biosecurity,” Balouji said, urging member states to take a firm stance against breaches of the Convention’s core principles.
Welcoming the accession of two new members to the BWC, Balouji highlighted the need for universal adherence to the treaty, particularly in the Middle East. He warned that targeting peaceful biological facilities infringes upon member states’ fundamental rights to scientific development and threatens the credibility of the global disarmament regime.
Iran called on the international community to “unequivocally condemn” the attacks and ensure that those responsible are held to account.
