Iran, Georgia Seek Closer Convergence to Promote Stability in Caucasus: Pezeshkian

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stressed the importance of strengthening convergence between Iran and Georgia amid evolving regional and international dynamics in the Caucasus, identifying expanded economic, transit and diplomatic cooperation as key pillars for balanced stability in the region.
The remarks were made on Monday during a meeting with Iran’s newly appointed ambassador to Georgia, Ali Moujani. President Pezeshkian highlighted the strategic significance of the Caucasus as a vital bridge linking Asia and Europe.
Describing the region as a historic, cultural and economic crossroads, President Pezeshkian said it holds significant potential to connect regional and transregional economies. He underscored that deeper engagement with Caucasus countries, particularly Georgia, should remain a priority of Iran’s foreign policy.
The Iranian president also pointed to the deep historical and cultural ties between the Iranian and Georgian peoples, describing them as a shared collective memory and a valuable foundation for building sustainable and long-term cooperation.
Reaffirming Iran’s foreign policy principles, President Pezeshkian said justice, human dignity, respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity form the core of Tehran’s approach to regional affairs, including its engagement in the Caucasus.
He further noted the region’s strong potential to develop a complementary regional economy through synergy in transit routes, production, agriculture, energy and technology, with the aim of delivering balanced and mutual benefits to all parties involved. Strengthening bilateral and multilateral dialogue, he added, would help lay the groundwork for lasting peace, stability and shared growth.
Highlighting the importance of regional transport corridors, President Pezeshkian stressed the need for joint cooperation and the non-exclusive use of these routes to enhance human security, social welfare and regional tranquility.
Ambassador Ali Moujani, for his part, outlined his diplomatic priorities and pledged to utilize all available capacities to deepen friendly relations between Iran and Georgia and to enhance Iran’s role and standing in the Caucasus region.
