Iranian and Iraqi Presidents Hold High-Level Talks in Baghdad

Baghdad, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Latif Rashid in Baghdad on Wednesday as part of his first official foreign visit since taking office in August. Leading a high-level eco-political delegation, Pezeshkian’s visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation between Iran and Iraq.

Upon his arrival at Baghdad International Airport, President Pezeshkian was warmly received by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and Iran’s ambassador to Iraq, Mohammad Kazem Al-e Sadeq. A formal welcoming ceremony was held in his honor.

In addition to diplomatic meetings, President Pezeshkian will visit the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, where he will pay homage to the shrines of Imam Ali (AS) and Imam Hussain (AS), revered figures in Shia Islam. He is also scheduled to tour several Iranian-run development projects in Basra, southern Iraq, before concluding his visit with a trip to the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

This visit underscores the close ties between Iran and Iraq, and marks the beginning of Pezeshkian’s diplomatic engagements on the international stage.
