Iranian and Russian FM’s Meet at UN Headquarters to Discuss Bilateral and Regional Issues
New York, The Gulf Observer: According to a report from IRNA’s correspondent, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting on Tuesday evening at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The two diplomats discussed the latest status of bilateral cooperation and regional issues.
Bagheri Kani highlighted recent developments in Iran-Russia relations, noting that they are progressing in the right direction. He expressed hope that the legal formalities to finalize important cooperation documents, particularly the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty and other agreements such as the use of Iran’s transit capacity, would be completed promptly.
The meeting also covered regional developments, including the situation in Gaza. Bagheri Kani stressed the necessity of preventing continued Zionist crimes and attacks against Palestinians as soon as possible. He warned that neglecting this issue and the regime’s escalating attacks on Gaza are contributing to rising tensions and crisis in the region.
Bagheri Kani commended Russia for its efforts to highlight the Palestinian issue and the crimes committed by the Zionists during its rotating presidency of the UN Security Council.
Lavrov, in turn, congratulated Iran on the successful conclusion of its presidential election and expressed satisfaction with the progress in bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Moscow. He conveyed Russia’s concern about the potential expansion of the conflict and comprehensive aggression by the Zionist regime, including against Lebanon. Lavrov emphasized Russia’s aim to prevent such events and stressed the responsibility of all parties involved.
The discussions between Bagheri Kani and Lavrov reflect the ongoing cooperation and shared regional concerns between Iran and Russia, as both countries seek to address and mitigate escalating tensions in the Middle East.
