Iranian, Japanese Foreign Ministers Discuss Bilateral Relations and Regional Developments

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation on Monday with his Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Motegi, to discuss the latest developments in bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues.

During the call, Araghchi congratulated Motegi on his reappointment as Japan’s Foreign Minister. Expressing optimism about the future of ties, he noted that Motegi’s previous experience and the history of constructive cooperation between the two countries would help further advance close, creative, and effective collaboration.

The Iranian foreign minister also reviewed recent developments surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and the actions of the United States and the three European countries. He emphasized that “it is the United States that must return to diplomacy by earning Iran’s trust.”

For his part, Minister Motegi reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to contributing to peace and stability in the West Asia region. He welcomed political initiatives aimed at resolving regional and international issues and reiterated Tokyo’s support for diplomatic and political solutions.

The two ministers also discussed the current status of bilateral cooperation, consular affairs, and humanitarian matters. Both sides underscored the importance of maintaining regular consultations and dialogue to further strengthen the long-standing friendly relations between Iran and Japan.
