Iranian President Calls on Pope Francis to Push for Ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon
Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called on Pope Francis to encourage world leaders, particularly those of Christian nations, to intervene in halting Israeli atrocities in Gaza and Lebanon, and to support efforts to establish a ceasefire. In a message sent to the Pope on Wednesday, Pezeshkian urged the Catholic leader to leverage his influence to prevent further violence and ensure humanitarian aid reaches the victims of the ongoing conflict.
“In this unstable situation and with the potential for the spread of war in the region, I request you, as the leader of Catholics worldwide, to exert your esteemed efforts to prevent the continuation of inhumane aggressions, establish peace and a ceasefire, and create an opportunity for humanitarian aid to be sent to the victims,” President Pezeshkian wrote.
He also appealed to the Pope to rally Christian nations and world leaders to take a stand on this crucial issue, underscoring the urgency of diplomatic intervention.
Pezeshkian emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran stands ready to enhance its cooperation with the Vatican in the pursuit of global peace and justice.
This message follows Pope Francis’s recent statement calling for investigations into reports of genocide allegedly committed by the Israeli military in Gaza, signaling the Vatican’s growing concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
