Iranian President, Pakistani PM Hold Phone Talks on Regional Peace and Bilateral Cooperation

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation on Saturday, during which they exchanged views on regional developments and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Sharif extended his gratitude to the Iranian leadership for its benevolent, compassionate, and brotherly initiatives aimed at resolving misunderstandings and facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India. He described Tehran’s diplomatic efforts as instrumental in promoting peace and stability in the region.

Sharif also praised the recent visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi to Islamabad, describing it as a constructive and timely move that presented Iran’s proposal for a ceasefire and the de-escalation of tensions between Pakistan and India. He reflected on the historical context of bilateral ties between Islamabad and New Delhi, noting that previous conflicts had failed to address the root causes of their differences.

The Prime Minister welcomed the recent de-escalation and ceasefire, expressing optimism for the emergence of sustainable peace in South Asia. He also conveyed his intention to visit Tehran in the near future for in-depth discussions on matters of mutual interest and regional developments.

President Pezeshkian, in turn, voiced satisfaction with the ceasefire between Pakistan and India, reiterating Iran’s principled stance that war and violence cannot resolve disputes and only deepen the suffering of nations. He stressed that dialogue and cooperation represent the only viable path to lasting peace.

The Iranian President reaffirmed Tehran’s unwavering commitment to promoting peace, security, and stability in the region. He welcomed opportunities to further enhance Iran’s bilateral relations with Pakistan, as well as to support broader reconciliation efforts between Pakistan and India.

Highlighting terrorism as a major challenge confronting the region, President Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of regional synergy, coordination, and fraternal relations in addressing this common threat.

In conclusion, President Pezeshkian welcomed Prime Minister Sharif’s proposed visit to Tehran and expressed hope that the meeting would serve to deepen bilateral cooperation and strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations.
