Iranian President, Qatari Emir Discuss Regional Cooperation and Palestine Crisis
Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has underscored the significance of Iran’s ties with Qatar, stating that while Tehran prioritizes developing relations with regional and neighboring nations, Doha holds a special place in its foreign policy.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Wednesday, President Pezeshkian highlighted the ongoing high-level engagements between the two countries. “We made good decisions to develop and deepen relations and open new avenues of cooperation,” he said.
He emphasized that regional stability and security can be ensured through policies of good neighborliness, mutual respect, and constructive interaction among countries. He also reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, advocating for the participation of all Syrians in determining their future.
Addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, President Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for Qatar’s mediation efforts that led to a ceasefire and the release of Palestinian prisoners. He called for stronger coordinated measures by Islamic nations to alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza and take decisive action against Israeli aggression.
For his part, Sheikh Tamim reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to deepening ties with Iran, stressing that dialogue is the best solution to resolve regional disputes. He noted that his visit to Iran came at a time when West Asia is facing immense challenges, requiring closer coordination and consultation.
The Qatari Emir also pointed to the importance of enhancing trade and economic cooperation, particularly by following up on the outcomes of the recent Joint Economic Commission meetings and increasing bilateral trade.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Sheikh Tamim called for adherence to the Gaza ceasefire agreement and unhindered humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. He also expressed hope for suitable conditions to support the reconstruction of Gaza and achieve a just, lasting, and comprehensive solution for Palestine.
The discussions reinforced both nations’ commitment to strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors while working towards regional stability and resolving pressing international issues through diplomatic dialogue.
