Jakarta Governor Inaugurates Heirloom Flag Park to Expand Green Open Spaces in the Capital

Jakarta Governor

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo on Saturday inaugurated the Heirloom Flag Park, a newly integrated green space complex combining Ayodya, Langsat, and Leuser Parks in South Jakarta.

Speaking to reporters at the site, the governor said the project reflects the Jakarta provincial government’s commitment to expanding modern, inclusive, and family-friendly green open spaces for residents.

“The Heirloom Flag Park reflects the Jakarta government’s commitment to expanding modern, inclusive, and family-friendly green open spaces,” Pramono said during the inauguration ceremony.

The event was attended by Indonesia’s fifth president, Megawati Soekarnoputri. Pramono noted that the integration of the three parks aims to provide the public with a spacious and comfortable environment for recreation and sports activities.

He added that the newly developed park features a range of facilities including a tennis court, a multifunction sports field, and a padel court, offering residents more opportunities for outdoor activities.

The park also includes a statue dedicated to Fatmawati, who is widely remembered for sewing the Heirloom Flag ahead of Indonesia’s proclamation of independence. Fatmawati was also the mother of Megawati from her marriage to Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno.

According to Pramono, the statue portrays Fatmawati sewing the historic flag while she was pregnant, symbolizing her dedication and contribution to the nation’s independence.

“By placing a statue of Madam Fatmawati within the Heirloom Flag Park complex, we intend to pay the highest respect to a figure who made notable contributions to the nation and the state,” he said.

The governor also highlighted that under his leadership, together with Deputy Governor Rano Karno, the Jakarta administration is intensifying efforts to expand green open spaces throughout the capital.

Pramono encouraged private stakeholders to support the initiative, noting that contributors would be allowed to name the facilities they help develop.

“In this way, the area of green open spaces has grown significantly. In fact, I will soon inaugurate 23 to 25 new green open spaces,” he added.
