Jakarta International Marathon 2025 Generates Rp85 Billion in Economic Impact

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Jakarta’s provincial government announced that the 2025 Jakarta International Marathon (JAKIM) generated approximately Rp85 billion (US$5.5 million) in revenue across multiple sectors in the capital, highlighting the growing economic contribution of major sporting events to the city’s economy.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the international marathon provided a significant boost to local businesses, particularly micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), hotels, and related service industries.
“The most concrete example is the Jakarta International Marathon. We calculated that it contributed roughly Rp85 billion from MSMEs, hotels and other sectors,” Pramono told reporters in South Jakarta on Sunday.
He noted that while international-scale events deliver the greatest economic gains, locally organized running events also generate measurable benefits, albeit on a smaller scale. According to the provincial government’s assessment, revenue from local running events is estimated at around half of JAKIM 2025’s contribution.
Pramono added that the positive impact of such events has been reflected in Jakarta’s fiscal performance, with tax revenue targets largely met as of December.
The governor said hotels and MSMEs experienced increased demand during the marathon period, with higher occupancy rates and stronger sales recorded in areas along and around the race route.
JAKIM 2025 attracted approximately 31,000 participants from Indonesia and abroad, a turnout that Pramono said demonstrated the event’s smooth organization and strong international appeal. He noted that the influx of runners and visitors boosted spending on accommodation, food, transportation and other services, providing broad-based economic benefits.
Pramono said the provincial government aims to develop JAKIM into a flagship sports tourism event for Jakarta, attracting more international visitors, particularly runners. As part of this strategy, the Jakarta International Marathon has been formally designated as a key sports tourism event in the capital.
On Sunday, the governor also participated in the JEKATE Running Series 2025, themed “Explore the City, Own Your Flow,” which featured distinctive running routes across Jakarta, allowing participants to experience the city through sport.
According to Pramono, the initiative reflects Jakarta’s openness to hosting a wide range of running and sporting events, noting that such activities promote healthier lifestyles while offering residents and visitors an engaging way to explore different parts of the city.
