Jakarta Seeks Enhanced Synergy with Seoul to Achieve Global City Status

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Jakarta government is intensifying its efforts to strengthen synergy and cooperation with its strategic partners, particularly the Seoul metropolitan government, as part of its ambitions to achieve global city status.

“In the near future, Jakarta will face new challenges in becoming a global city. We want to bolster synergy and cooperate with our strategic partners, including the Seoul metropolitan government,” said acting governor of Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono, on Saturday.

Governor Hartono made this statement at an event commemorating the 40th anniversary of the sister city cooperation between Jakarta and Seoul. He highlighted that under this partnership, Jakarta and Seoul have been collaborating in several key areas such as tourism, culture, education, and human resource development.

Over the past four decades, the close partnership between Jakarta and Seoul has reflected the commitment and hard work of both cities in harnessing their potential, especially in the realms of culture, economy, and urban development. Governor Hartono emphasized that maintaining a harmonious sister city relationship and fostering deeper ties are crucial to continuous development across various aspects.

The acting governor expressed hope that the sister city relationship will continue to inspire new ideas, enabling the communities of both cities to dynamically adapt to future developments.

To mark the 40th anniversary of their cooperation, the Jakarta government and the Seoul metropolitan government are hosting the 2024 Seoul-Jakarta Friendship Festival from July 27 to July 28, 2024, at Korea 360 Main Atrium, Lotte Shopping Avenue, South Jakarta.

“Hopefully, the 2024 Seoul-Jakarta Friendship Festival serves as a platform to celebrate art and cultural exchanges, create new opportunities, and continue to foster friendship between the two cities,” Governor Hartono remarked.
