Jokowi Receives Palestine’s Highest Honor for Support of Independence

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo, commonly known as Jokowi, was honored with the Grand Collar Order of the State of Palestine by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas through his Special Envoy, Riyad Al Maliki, in a formal ceremony held at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday.

The prestigious award, the highest decoration granted by the Palestinian government, acknowledges Indonesia’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause. Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Retno Marsudi, highlighted the significance of the recognition, emphasizing that it was a tribute to Indonesia’s unwavering commitment to the Palestinian struggle for independence.

“The Special Envoy conveyed President Mahmoud Abbas’ deep appreciation to President Jokowi for Indonesia’s steadfast support of the Palestinian struggle,” Minister Marsudi remarked. She noted that the award was presented following a productive meeting between President Jokowi and the Palestinian President’s special envoy.

During the meeting, Special Envoy Al Maliki conveyed President Abbas’ warm regards to President Jokowi and the Indonesian people, particularly in light of Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations on August 17. He also praised Indonesia’s active role in advocating for Palestinian rights on the international stage.

Minister Marsudi further elaborated on President Abbas’ gratitude, acknowledging Indonesia’s significant contributions in advocating for a ceasefire, providing essential humanitarian aid, and promoting the two-state solution as a viable path to peace in the region.

“At the meeting, President Jokowi reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian struggle, advocating for a ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian assistance, and a two-state solution,” Marsudi stated.

Additionally, President Jokowi reiterated Indonesia’s determination to advocate for international recognition and full United Nations membership for Palestine, emphasizing the country’s ongoing efforts to support Palestinian sovereignty on the global stage.

Special Envoy Al Maliki underscored that the Grand Collar Order is a mark of respect for President Jokowi’s dedication to strengthening Indonesia-Palestine relations. He noted that the award also symbolizes the close diplomatic ties between the two nations and Indonesia’s continued commitment to championing Palestinian rights within the international community.
